High Point Fire District, along with automatic aid from Sandhill Fire Department, responded to a reported structure fire on White Plains Church Road.
Engine 11 arrived on scene to find a single-story residence with light smoke showing from the gable vents. The homeowner reported arriving to find smoke inside the home. Fire crews deployed a hose line and made entry.
Inside, firefighters discovered significant fire damage in the kitchen area. The fire was no longer active upon their arrival. Crews pulled ceilings in both the kitchen and adjoining living room, revealing fire damage that had extended into the attic. However, no active fire was present.
A thermal imaging camera was used to check for hot spots, which were quickly extinguished using the hose line. The investigation indicated the fire originated near the stove, with one of the stovetop burners found to be in the βonβ position. It is believed the fire self-extinguished after consuming the available oxygen in the structure.
Tragically, several family pets were found deceased inside the home, likely due to the oxygen-depleted environment.
