The High Point Fire District conducted its weekly training on Monday, February 16, 2026, at the Carolina Scrap facility. The training focused on vehicle extrication techniques involving a side-resting vehicle scenario.
During the exercise, firefighters practiced stabilizing the vehicle using wood blocks and wedges, commonly referred to as cribbing. Once initial stabilization was achieved, struts and ratchet straps were applied to secure the vehicle further. Firefighters then removed all glass from the vehicle.
To complete the extrication, crews used a combination of hydraulic “Jaws of Life” tools and a reciprocating saw to remove the vehicle’s roof, allowing access to and removal of the simulated trapped driver.
This hands-on training helps firefighters maintain proficiency in complex rescue situations and reinforces safe, effective extrication practices.
