High Point Fire conducted its monthly vehicle extrication training at Carolina Scrap. This month’s scenario simulated a severe side-impact collision with significant intrusion into the driver’s compartment. Crews practiced a technique known as cross ramming: the hydraulic ram from the “Jaws of Life” was inserted inside the vehicle and used to push the driver’s-side door post back toward its original position. Restoring the door post creates additional space around the patient and facilitates safer, faster removal of the doors and door post during patient extrication.
