Large Field Fire

High Point Fire District responded to a reported field fire off of Mills Rd, where Engine 21 arrived to find a large area of a grain field burning and flames advancing toward a wooded section. Due to the significant size of the fire and ongoing dry conditions, High Point immediately requested mutual aid from the Ruby Mt. Croghan Fire Department as well as support from the South Carolina Forestry Commission.

High Point Fire deployed four engines and two brush trucks to the incident. Ruby Mt. Croghan Fire Department provided additional resources, responding with four apparatus, including brush trucks and tankers. The South Carolina Forestry Commission assisted with three bulldozers (dozers) to help contain and control the spread of the fire.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the fire was ignited by a lightning strike from a recent nearby thunderstorm.
