High Point Fire, along with auto-aid partners Pageland, Sandhills, and Ruby/Mt. Croghan Fire, responded to a reported fire involving a camper and an adjacent mobile home on Graham Ln.

High Point Engine 51 arrived on scene and found a camper fully involved with fire extending to an adjacent mobile home. During the incident, the camper’s propane tanks overheated and their pressure relief valves opened, releasing a high-pressure stream of burning propane into the camper.

Engine 51 utilized its deck gun to knock down the camper fire and then began attacking fire extension into the end bedroom of the mobile home. Firefighters deployed two hose lines from Engine 51 and made entry into the mobile home, where they encountered hoarder-type conditions that made it difficult to access the hallway and reach the involved rooms. Once crews gained access, the fire was quickly extinguished.

Firefighters conducted a search of the mobile home and the remains of the camper for possible victims; none were found. Apparatus from all responding departments rotated supplying water to Engine 51 during suppression operations.

The camper occupant reported that he had turned on a space heater before taking his dog for its evening walk and returned to find the camper on fire.
