Loves Truck Stop - 2210 Highway 601 North

The volunteers from the High Point Fire District responded to a reported truck fire at the Loves Truck Stop located on Highway 601 North. Engine 21, followed by Tanker 22, arrived on scene to find a single axle box truck with visible smoke and flames showing from the cargo area.

The driver informed responders that the truck was transporting batteries housed in a 6-foot-tall cabinet weighing approximately 2,000 pounds. These batteries were designed as backup power units for computer data centers.

Firefighters deployed dry chemical extinguishers to knock down the flames and followed up with a hose line from Engine 21 to cool the batteries, preventing reignition. A thermal imaging camera was used to monitor the battery temperatures, ensuring they were below 100 degrees before concluding the operation.
