High Point Fire District, Pageland Rescue, and Lifeguard EMS responded Friday afternoon to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Oro Church Road and Johns Road.
High Point Engine 51 arrived on scene at 4:02 PM and found a Subaru SUV and a Toyota Camry involved in a collision. The driver of the Camry was trapped and required extrication.
Firefighters stabilized the vehicle using cribbing and used hydraulic rescue tools (commonly known as the Jaws of Life) to begin a full side removal for patient access. Pageland Rescue 1 arrived and joined the rescue operation and the driver was freed at 4:14 PM. Engine 11 supported scene safety, including vehicle stabilization and mitigation of fluid spills using absorbent material.
Lifeguard EMS evaluated and treated multiple patients at the scene. Two patients were transported by ground ambulances to Atrium Health Union for further care. A third patient was transported to Pageland Airport, where Engine 31 had set up a landing zone, and airlifted by MedCenter Air helicopter to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
