Grass Fire at Walmart

High Point Fire District responded to reports of a grass and brush fire at the Walmart Distribution facility on Dove Sutton Road. Engines 11 and 31 arrived on scene to find a wind-driven fire threatening multiple trailers and producing heavy smoke that reduced visibility on Highway 601.

Engine 11 deployed a hose line to protect the exposed trailers while Engine 31 operated its deck gun to extinguish the head of the fire. Engine 51 and Tanker 22 provided water supply to support the attacking engines.

The fire was caused when a lawn mower became stuck and its muffler came into contact with tall, dry grass, igniting the vegetation.
