High Point Fire District responded to a reported woods fire behind Mike’s Convenience , located on Highway 601 North.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a fire burning in the wooded area behind the store, which was threatening an adjacent wheat field. Engine 11 deployed its deck gun and a hose line from the store’s parking lot to attack the fire. At the same time, Brush 23 maneuvered around the perimeter of the field to suppress the fire from the opposite side.

Crews determined the fire was caused by wind‑driven embers originating from a garbage burn pile located behind the business. The property owner was reminded that a statewide burning ban is currently in effect.
