Tractor-trailer vs. Car

Friday, August 14, 2026, 2:43 p.m.

High Point Fire, Pageland Fire, Pageland Rescue, and Lifeguard EMS responded to a reported vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer and an overturned car at Highway 601 North and Dove Sutton Road.

A nearby High Point firefighter arrived on scene and found the driver of the overturned car entrapped. Responders stabilized the vehicle with struts to prevent further rollover, then placed ladders to access the driver-side top of the vehicle. Using “Jaws of Life” rescue tools from Pageland Rescue 1 and High Point Engine 11, responders removed a door and cut the roof from the car.

The driver was freed from the vehicle at 2:55 p.m. and transferred to Lifeguard EMS for further treatment and transport to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

During the rescue, all northbound lanes of Highway 601 North were closed to create a safe work area for emergency personnel. Officers from the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office and the Pageland Police Department helped reroute northbound traffic into one southbound lane to keep Friday afternoon traffic moving.

After the rescue was completed, High Point Fire Engines 11 and 51 deployed traffic cones to funnel northbound traffic into the northbound turning lane, allowing law enforcement officers to move out of the busy highway while traffic was managed by the traffic light. High Point Fire also controlled fluid spills with oil dry and remained on scene until tow operators cleared the roadway.

The crash is being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
