High Point Fire District’s first response of the new year was to a reported woods fire on Mt. Harmon Circle. Upon arrival, Engine 31 found grass, brush, woods, and a storage building burning, with fire extending to an adjacent home.

Due to the size and severity of the incident, the call was immediately upgraded to a full structure fire response, prompting automatic mutual aid from Pageland Fire Department and Sandhills Fire Department.

Engine 31 deployed two hose lines to begin extinguishment of the involved structures, while Engines 11 and 21 utilized deck guns to halt the advancing wildfire and prevent further threat to nearby homes. Engine 51 supplied water to support suppression operations.

Mutual-aid partners arrived to assist with critical tasks, including:

  • Pageland Engine 2 assigned to ventilate the roof of the burning home

  • Sandhill Fire engines and tankers providing additional manpower and water supply

  • Tankers shuttling approximately 10,000 gallons of water from a hydrant at South Pearl St. and Highway 151

The fire was declared under control at 2:11 PM, with firefighters remaining on scene for an addition hour to complete extinguishment of all hot spots.

The fire appears to have started when embers from a neighbor’s burn pile ignited nearby grass, spreading rapidly to brush, woods, storage buildings, and ultimately the residence.
