Thursday, April 23, 2026 (4:37 PM)

The High Point Fire District responded to a grass and debris fire, initially reported as a commercial vehicle fire, at the intersection of Dudley Road and McManus Road on Thursday afternoon.

Upon arrival, Engine 11 found a grass lot used for storing tractor trailers actively burning. The fire had extended into a large debris pile and spread into adjacent wooded areas, placing numerous tractor trailers at risk. Firefighters initiated a fire attack using a combination of deck guns and hose lines from Engines 11 and 31.

Engine 41, Tanker 22, and Lanes Creek Tanker 114 conducted water shuttle operations from a hydrant located at Dudley Road and Highway 207 to ensured a sustained water supply during the incident.

The property owner responded to the scene and provided bottled water to firefighters working in challenging conditions. The owner also arranged for a skid loader to assist by pulling apart the debris pile, allowing crews to more effectively extinguish remaining hot spots.

The fire is believed to have originated near one of the tractor trailers; however, the cause remains undetermined.
